Mazda Motors Chief Designer, Franz von Holzhausen, approached spork unltd. to create 3 gigantic vinyl banners for an upcoming exhibit. The theme was based on future Mazda drivers, their lifestyles, and how it could be combined to influence Mazda’s designers and engineers for future car designs. We came up with a youthful, controlled-chaos, timeline/collage look–containing all the info a Franz provided but kept it visual heavy and less copy and statistic driven.

Mike and I were instructed that each banner would be approximately 12 feet tall and length would be decided on how much of the supplied images and information we could fit on them. Alas, we were supplied a limited amount of images(resolution was not adequate on most images) and graphics as well as statistics that we had to visually and graphically decipher and include. Thankfully Mike’s illustrative talents were able to substitute poor photos into uniquely rendered and stylized portraits.

All 3 banners were built at 1/8 scale, which pushed our Macs to the brink. With a strict deadline, we delivered the files on time and on budget. Commemorative posters of the banners were printed and handed out at later shows.
